Samsung, LG Fighting to Be Thinner

Two Korean display manufacturers have staged a war of words over the thinness of their mobile phone display panels, which somewhat reflects South Korea’s leadership in the sector.
LG.Philips LCD said yesterday that it has developed the world’s slimmest LCD panel for mobile phones at 1.3 millimeters thick, which it claims to be thinner than Samsung’s OLED. A few hours later, Samsung SDI refuted the claim in a press release, saying it already possesses 0.8-millimeter technology for OLED.

LCD (liquid-crystal display) and OLED (organic light-emitting diode) are both display technologies used in small size portable displays. LCD uses a backlight and color filters to display colors, while OLED uses self-illuminating organic cells.

Currently, LCD and OLED panels used in mobile phones are 1.5? millimeters thick.
