The Korea Herald (31 August, 2004)

The Ministry of Information and Communication reported on Thursday (Aug. 26) that it plans to build an IT center to attract multinational IT enterprises and R&D firms in Seoul by 2007.

The Ministry of Planning and Budget approved the 430 billion won ($372) proposal to build the center at the Digital Media City (DMC) complex in Sang-am-dong, western Seoul.

The DMC construction project was launched in 2002 by transforming a landfill site near the World Cup Soccer Stadium. To be completed by 2010, it will serve as a research and development hub for the IT industry.

The proposed IT center project is intended to help Korea become an IT hub in Northeast Asia by attracting global IT enterprises and fostering new IT growth engines such as digital contents into more advanced levels.

With a total office space of 19,140 square meters, the planned 20-story building is designed to offer comprehensive support facilities for research activities, product development, performance testing, and marketing. It will also provide software developers with a joint manufacturing facility to help them save equipment expenses.

The ministry said that the center’s location in the middle of DMC will help their efficient transportation needs due to its proximity to Incheon Airport and easy access to Seoul’s large consumer market and rich high-tech talent pool.
