South Korea and Poland agreed to increase exchanges and cooperation in the information and technology (IT) sector, Seoul officials said Saturday.

The agreement came at a meeting between Korea's Information Minister Chin Dae-je and Krzysztof Opawski, Poland's Minister of Infrastructure, on the sidelines of a summit Friday in Warsaw between the Korean and Polish heads of state, the officials at the Ministry of Information and Communication said.

Korean President Roh Moo-hyun was in Poland as part of a three-nation European tour, which included Britain and will next take him to France.

The Korean minister asked his Polish counterpart to allow more investment by South Korean firms in Poland's IT industry, according to the officials.

Chin also unveiled plans to increase exchanges in the IT industry, the officials said. The plans include more visits to Seoul by Polish researchers for training and dispatch of Korean volunteers and IT experts to Poland to teach IT-related technologies there.
