Chinese telecom magnates are visiting Korea to take part in an information technology (IT) industry seminar slated for tomorrow in a bid to beef up the bilateral cooperation in the high-tech industrial sector between the two countries.

IPR Forum, a domestic marketing firm, said yesterday that the ``Korea-China IT Industry Seminar 2002’’ will open Thursday at the Convention and Exhibition (COEX) Center Grand Conference Room in Samsung-dong, southern Seoul.

The company said that the seminar, jointly sponsored by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), would give a clear picture and practical information on the Chinese telecom industry to Korean investors.

China Unicom vice president Liu Yunjie will give a presentation on ``Looking into the current development status of the Chinese telecom industry and Korea-China telecom cooperation prospects through the development of China Unicom.’’

Hu Xiaoming, vice president of the China State Information Center and concurrently vice president of the State Information Association, and Mao Xingchun, president of Centel Group, a leading Chinese IT company, will give presentations on ``IT companies?path to prosperity in China after entry into the WTO’’ and ``Chinese IT industry’s development status and competitiveness analysis’’ respectively.

``I hope Korean investors will obtain a better understanding and secure the latest information about the Chinese information technology market through the question-and-answer session with leading Chinese telecom entrepreneurs like Liu Yunjie at the seminar,’’ said Chris Maeng, president of IPR Forum.

The company expects China’s IT market to grow further in the future as the Chinese Beijing Olympics Organization Committee and the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry announced earlier this year their plans for the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be a high-tech international sports event showcasing state-of-the-art IT technology.
